I love my family, America, the Constitution, the free market, classic literature, great coffee, handbags, tall boots, and cool gadgets.
I deeply admire Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, Milton Friedman, CS Lewis, and Thomas Sowell.

You can expect me to post about these topics as well as anything else I think is interesting.

"Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." ~ CS Lewis

It’s not about contraception. It’s about the First Amendment - the freedom of religion and the free worship thereof. Are the American people honestly willing to throw that away for a product women can get at a cost that is far less than a month’s worth of lattes

President Obama announced his “accommodation” for religious employers. He now says religious medical facilities, schools, and charities are still required to provide health insurance policies that include contraception, sterilization, and abortifacients but that health insurance companies will pick up the cost of those services.

The guy just doesn’t get it. It’s not the money; it’s not the contraception; it’s the Constitution! Barack Obama actually thinks he is in within his rights to force religious employers to help their employees engage in activities that violate that employers’ faith doctrines. For Pete’s sake, does the man understand the concept of the “free exercise” of anything?

Elizabeth Scalia is rounding up reaction to Obama’s “accommodation.”

This isn’t about women. It’s not about contraception. This is about a president of the United States who has no respect for the Constitution, no respect for the First Amendment, and also has no respect for people of faith – and I’m not trying to be controversial, but there’s no balancing involved here.

I didn’t know we were having a problem getting contraceptives in this country. I mean they fund Planned Parenthood who hands out this stuff like candy. So there’s really no problem in this country with access. What he’s trying to do is break down that line between church and state in reverse and it’s contemptible!

I agree with Mr. Levin. It is very clear to me that Barack Obama is not and has never been touched by any faith, for if he had been he would abhor the idea of destroying the very line he is now trying so hard to destroy.

This convinces me even more that Mr. Obama does not understand America and how our nation came into existence. If he he did, he would not be the first president in our nation’s history to exert so much energy trying to force apart what has been - ever since the first pilgrims set foot on this land - the inextricable link between faith and freedom.

Our country is unique in the world because it was established on the basis of an idea: that we are all endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights — in other words, rights that are conferred not by a king or a president or a Congress, but by the Creator himself. The state protects these rights, but it doesn’t grant them.

“And what the state doesn’t grant, the state can’t take away. That’s what this week’s debate on a particularly odious outcome from the President’s health care law has been about: Our founders believed so strongly that the government should neither establish a religion, nor prevent its free exercise that they listed it as the very first item in the Bill of Rights.

“And Republicans are trying today to reaffirm that basic right. But Democrats won’t allow it. They won’t allow those of us who were sworn to uphold the U.S. Constitution to even offer an amendment that says we believe in our First Amendment right to religious freedom. I never thought I’d see the day. I’ve spent a lot of time in my life defending the First Amendment. But I never thought I’d see the day when the elected representatives of the people of this country would be blocked by a majority party in Congress to even express their support for it.
